RF&D was an okay book, but really gave only a cursory coverage of its subject matter. I’d reccommend it only for younger readers and those that aren’t too serious about their interests in paleontology and geology.
There were a lot of nice photographs, but in the section dedicated to giving info about individual dinosaur genera the illustrations were of inconsistent quality. Most of them were fairly poor representatives of their subject matters. Fortunately, the equilibrium of low-quality illustrations was occasionally punctuated by art from the extremely talented Luis V. Rey.
The information was very sketchy and generalized. I didn’t find myself really learning anything from this volume. In general, I wouldn’t reccommend the book, but if you have a young child interested in science you could do worse than this book. If I had to rate it for myself, I’d give it 2.25 stars, but since most people aren’t as obsessive about paleontology as me, I’ll give it 3.
Rating: 3 / 5
